The Hunters on Tau Volantis are hinted to have gained regenerative abilities from close contact with the Red Markers on the planet however, this is not 100% certain. While the Ubermorph's origins are unknown, its appearance suggests it may be an early form of a Nexus organism. The exact origin of the regenerative abilities is unknown, although the Hunter, a Necromorph created by the Unitologist scientist Challus Mercer, gained its regenerative ability when Mercer directly injected Necromorph tissue into the brain of a live patient, Brant Harris, who underwent a gradual transformation with subsequent surgeries performed by Mercer.
